Each One, Reach One
Scripture Reading: John 4:4–10
Key Scripture — John 4:4 (KJV)
“And he must needs go through Samaria.”
Devotional
Have you ever experienced an unexpected encounter that caused you to wonder whether God had arranged that moment for a greater purpose?
Perhaps it was a conversation with a stranger, an unexpected telephone call, or an interruption in your daily routine. What appeared insignificant became an opportunity to encourage someone, offer prayer, or share the hope found in Jesus Christ.
In John 4:4, Scripture tells us that Jesus “must needs go through Samaria.” What appears to be a geographical statement introduces a remarkable encounter that reveals the heart of our Savior.
Traveling from Judea toward Galilee, Jesus stopped at Jacob’s well. Tired from His journey, He sat down to rest. Soon, a Samaritan woman arrived to draw water.
She came seeking water to satisfy her physical thirst, but Jesus offered something far greater—living water that would satisfy her deepest spiritual need.
What appeared to be an ordinary encounter became an extraordinary opportunity for eternal transformation.
Recognizing Divine Appointments
The Samaritan woman did not know that her daily routine would become a life-changing encounter with the Messiah.
Likewise, God often places people along our paths who need encouragement, compassion, and the message of salvation.
Unfortunately, we sometimes become so consumed with our schedules and responsibilities that we overlook these opportunities.
Jesus reminds us to remain spiritually attentive.
Every person has a story. Every person has struggles. And every person needs the hope found in Jesus Christ.
Divine appointments often begin with ordinary conversations.
Crossing Barriers to Reach Others
John 4:9 reveals the woman’s surprise when Jesus asked her for a drink. Cultural and religious divisions separated Jews and Samaritans, yet Jesus refused to allow those barriers to prevent their conversation.
He saw beyond her background and circumstances. He saw someone who needed the living water only He could provide.
What a powerful lesson for the Church!
The Great Commission calls us to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). Our responsibility to share the Gospel must never be restricted by race, culture, social standing, or personal convenience.
Sometimes reaching one requires stepping beyond our comfort zones.
From Conversation to Transformation
Jesus began with a simple request: “Give me to drink” (John 4:7).
He used an ordinary conversation to introduce an eternal truth.
Effective evangelism requires more than speaking. It involves listening, demonstrating compassion, building relationships, and faithfully sharing God’s Word.
Later, this woman returned to her community and invited others to meet Jesus. According to John 4:39, many believed because of her testimony.
She came with a water jar and left with a testimony.
One conversation became an opportunity for many to encounter Christ.
Never underestimate what God can accomplish through one willing believer.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, open our eyes to recognize the opportunities You place before us. Give us compassion for the lost, courage to cross barriers, and wisdom to share Your truth. May our conversations point others to Jesus Christ, and may our testimonies inspire others to follow Him. Use each of us to reach one for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
