Scripture Reading

Proverbs 30:7-9 – Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. [1]

Devotional

Today, I want to encourage you to trust God for all your needs. The writer of these verses made a request before God, asking Him to keep falsehood and lies far from him, to give him neither poverty nor riches, and to give him only his daily bread. God knows what you need for each step of your life. He promises that He will provide and care for all your needs-spiritual, physical, relational, and financial.

Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” God wants us to obey Him, to be faithful, and to be committed to Him. As a great provider, He will put people in your inner circle to accomplish His plan for your life. You need to pay attention and carefully follow His instructions. Sometimes, the road will be stony and difficult, but you need not to give up. Trust Him because God always does what He says He will do.

As you wait patiently, take time to reflect on what God has done for you in the past. Recall how much you have accomplished up to this point and how blessed you are to be able to enjoy God’s provision in your life. As I reflect on every step of my life, I see God’s providence, His involvement in every area. I can boldly say, “Glory and honor and praise go to you, Lord. I want to thank You with a grateful heart.”

I remember the names of all the people God used to help me with big milestones in my life. Robincia helped me to find a job as a visiting nurse in a public health clinic, my first job in nursing. Marcia helped me find my career job in a hospital pediatric unit. Gelia joined with Patricia, both head nurses, and promoted me as a charge nurse in the pre-op area of a maternity obstetric floor where I worked until retirement. Virginia, a real estate agent, helped me find the housec I’ve been living in for over a decade now as a homeowner.

God made all things possible for me when I was at the lowest point of need. He was there with me in every step along the way. Jesus asks us to pray for our daily bread, not for tomorrow’s bread, because tomorrow is in God’s hand. Let us join in agreement with the writer of Proverbs 30:8 and ask God to give us neither poverty nor riches, but to give us only our daily bread.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Are you willing to let God use you to provide for His people in times of need according to His plan? As He provides for you, you also need to provide for His children. And when you do, do so generously. You will receive blessings leading to abundant life.

The secret ingredient to receiving is to give. The word for you today is “give without restrictions,” and you will see God’s provision abound. Be obedient, be faithful, be committed.

Remember, it’s not the amount you give that counts, but the love of giving. God sees the motive of the heart. Let God use you as His instrument.
