God’s Love Expressed

By Solange Rodnez

Zephaniah 3:17 – The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” [1]

Let’s break down this verse into segments. First, “The Lord your God is with you.” This line reminds me of the name of Jesus, “Immanuel,” which means “God with us.” There is nothing more valuable in life than the presence of the Lord. This is a promise given to all of God’s children, for He said He will never leave us nor forsake us. He also said that He will guide and teach us in the way we should go. Our attitude should be to embrace these promises and know for certain that what He said He will do. If God said it, I believe it. I will be courageous and move forward despite the obstacles life brings my way. I am not alone; God is with me.

Secondly, “He is Mighty to save.” No force can compare with the mighty power of God. He is the Creator of the universe, and He rules and reigns over all the world. He is in charge of our lives. He sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to save us and rescue us from the hand of our enemies. Therefore, there is no reason for us to fear when facing a raging battle because the battle is not ours, but God’s. We need to acknowledge who God is, stand still, and watch God fight our battles. He will always prevail; we can live a victorious life.

The God we serve is a MIGHTY WARRIOR.

Thirdly, “He will take great delight in you.” Psalm 147:11 says, ·But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.” God delights in us because of His love for us. It pleases Him when we praise Him, glorify His holy name, and do what He asks us to do. In Exodus 15:26, Moses told the Israelites, “This is what the Lord declares: lf you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sightt obeying His commands and keeping all His decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you.” There is a condition for the Lord to take great delight in us. We need to listen, obey, study His Word, meditate on them, and apply them on a daily basis. Allow the Holy Spirit to teach us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Only then can the Lord take great delight in us.

Fourthly. “He quiets you with His love.”This is a promise of peace, complete rest in the Lord. God loves us just as we are. We do not have to do anything to earn lt. Jesus said. “Peace I give to you.” Once we embrace that peace, we find strength, comfort, hope, and love. We find a sense of stillness and serenity in the midst of a chaotic life, for we know that our Father cares for us. Let us surrender to Him, serve Him faithfully, and take advantage of that peace He offers to each of us, His children.

Lastly, “He will rejoice over you with singing.” It is such a privilege to have the King of kings rejoice over us with singing. He gladly sings a melody to our spirit like a mother singing a lullaby to her crying baby to comfort and help the baby fall asleep, Our Heavenly Father does the same for us to calm us down when our spirit is overwhelmed. He captures our restlessness and gives us peace. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” He loves us so much that He cares for us, even singing joyful songs over us. Let us praise Him; this kind of love is majestic and glorious. Only He can express it unto us.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
