Romans 12:2 – Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-His good, pleasing, and perfect will.
This verse highlights three key principles essential for a transformed life in Christ. (1) Do not mimic the behavior of the world, (2) Transform your life by following Jesus’ example, and (3) Acknowledge what pleases God so that you may know His will.
The world is filled with beliefs and principles that can lead to destruction. Colossians 3:2 instructs us to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things, while Romans 8:6 warns that to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. The Apostle Paul, in 2 Timothy 3, describes the sinful lifestyle that will mark the last days: People will be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. As believers, we are called to resist worldly patterns of sin, including the Lust of the eyes, the Lust of the flesh, and the pride of life.
Jesus gives a clear warning in Matthew 7:13, saying, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.” The narrow gate represents salvation through Christ-a path that requires genuine faith, sacrificial love, and a life devoted to God. In contrast, the wide gate leads to a life centered on self, resulting in corruption and spiritual death. Conforming to the world’s ways is detrimental to our spiritual growth. Instead, we must set our minds on God’s truth and walk in obedience to His will.
When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit begins a transformation in us, reshaping our minds to reflect His likeness. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come!” This transformation brings restoration, renewal, revival, and spiritual refreshment. It is evident in the way we:
• Clothe ourselves with the righteousness of Christ through His sacrificial blood.
• Devote ourselves to serving God faithfully.
• Develop a closer relationship with Him through prayer and studying His Word.
• Grow spiritually by meditating on, memorizing, and applying Scripture.
This renewal grants us fresh spiritual energy, new perspectives, godly desires, and a clear vision that aligns with God’s divine purpose for our lives.
One of God’s greatest desires for us is that we imitate Christ rather than follow the ways of the world. Colossians 3:17 instructs “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” When we actively seek to know God’s will, our decisions reflect His righteousness. A person living in obedience to God will exhibit the characteristics of a servant’s heart-one that is faithful, obedient, devoted, patient, willing, and loving.
God calls each of us to participate in Kingdom work according to His divine purpose. 1 Corinthians 15:58 reminds us: “Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your
labor in the Lord is not in vain.” A life that truly loves and obeys the Lord will reflect Jesus everywhere we go. This results in a peaceful, blessed life-one truly worth living.
To know God’s will is to walk in His ways and fulfill His calling in obedience and faithfulness. True transformation begins with a renewed mind and a heart fully surrendered to Christ. As we separate ourselves from the ways of the world and align ourselves with God’s perfect will, we will experience the abundant and purposeful life He has prepared for us.
