Built on Truth

By Rev. Keith Howard

Scripture:
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” — Gospel of Matthew 7:24–25

Reflection

Truth is not just something we believe—it is something we build on.

Jesus makes it clear that stability in life does not come from hearing truth alone, but from living it. As a result, the storms will come. The winds will rise. The pressures of life will test every foundation. As I have said, what is built on truth will stand.

In a world filled with shifting opinions and unstable ground, God calls His people to be anchored. Not in the culture… but also not in convenience. But in Christ and His Word.

And as we live out that truth, we must remember this charge:

“Let us not be a stumbling block, but a building block.”

Our lives are not meant to trip others up—but to help them stand. Every word we speak, every action we take, and every decision we make should point others toward Christ, not away from Him.

Where This Meets Us Today

  • Are we building our lives on truth—or just agreeing with it?
  • Are our actions helping others grow—or causing them to stumble?
  • Are we steady when storms come—or shaken because our foundation is weak?

Truth lived out becomes a testimony that others can stand on.

Practices for Living This Out

1. Build daily on God’s Word
Don’t just read Scripture—apply it. For that reason, truth becomes strength when practiced.

2. Examine your influence
Ask: Am I helping others walk closer to Christ, or making it harder for them?

3. Choose integrity over convenience
Truth is not always easy, but it is always right.

4. Strengthen others intentionally
Encourage, disciple, and support—be a building block in someone’s faith.

5. Stay anchored in Christ
Storms reveal foundations. Stay rooted in Him daily.

Prayer

Lord, help me not just to hear Your truth, but to live it. Establish my life on a firm foundation that cannot be shaken. Let my life be a building block that strengthens others, not a stumbling block that hinders them. Use me to point others to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Closing Thought

A life built on truth will stand—and will help others stand too.
