Trust Without Borders

Scripture: Matthew 14:22–33

Theme: Letting Faith Lead Beyond Fear

Verse of the Day

“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”— Matthew 14:30 (NIV)

Reflective Thought

Have you ever been invited into something greater, but fear held you back?

Peter stepped out onto the sea because Jesus said, “Come.” For a moment, Peter did the impossible — he walked on water. But when his focus shifted from Jesus to the storm, fear flooded in, and he began to sink.

Still, Jesus didn’t let him go under. He immediately reached out and saved him.

The call to follow Christ is a call to trust without borders — a faith that moves us beyond comfort zones, past human logic, and straight into God’s will.

Devotional Reading

So many of us want to “walk on water” — to live bold, faith-filled lives. But often, our trust has borders. We say, “I’ll follow You, Lord… just not there,” or, “I’ll serve You… but only when it’s safe.”

But in Matthew 14, Jesus demonstrates that true faith means trusting Him in the storm, on the water, and when we’re sinking.

In the song Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) the lyric cries out:

“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders…”

And that’s the call for us today.

Jesus is not asking for perfect faith. He’s asking for willingness.

He’s not surprised by your fear — but He is ready to meet you in the storm and walk with you through it.

3 Faith Questions for Today

  1. What borders have I put around my faith that Jesus may be calling me to cross?
  2. Where in my life is Jesus saying, “Come” — and I’ve hesitated?
  3. Do I trust more in my limitations or Christ’s power?

Faith Step

✨ Take one small step today where trust feels uncomfortable.

Maybe it’s speaking up, reaching out, joining a ministry, or surrendering a fear. Write it down and pray over it.

Prayer

Jesus, call me out of the boat. Help me to fix my eyes on You when storms surround me.

Let my trust be without borders. Remind me that You are near when I falter and strong when I am weak.

Build my faith, not in myself, but in Your unchanging presence.

Amen.

Challenge Verse

Hebrews 12:2 (CSB):

“Let us keep our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith.”

If you feel led today to walk toward Jesus — for the first time or in renewed trust — know that He is ready.

Lift your hand, lift your heart, and say: “Lord, save me.”

And He will.
