The Virgin Birth

  1. Week Three

By Rev. Keith Howard

Core Belief: Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

Scripture Reading:

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God with us’).”

— Matthew 1:23

Devotional:

The Virgin Birth is more than just a miracle—it is a cornerstone of our faith. Jesus’ birth was not the result of human effort or natural means, but the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit. By being conceived of the Spirit and born of Mary,

Jesus came into this world both fully God and fully human.

This truth reminds us that salvation could never come from humanity alone. We could not save ourselves. God Himself had to step into our world, pure and untouched by sin, to bring redemption. The Virgin Birth shows us the holiness of Jesus, set apart from the beginning, and the humility of God, choosing to enter the world through an ordinary young woman.

When we reflect on the Virgin Birth, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness to His promises. Long before Jesus was born, the prophets spoke of this miraculous event. And at just the right time, God fulfilled His Word. This gives us confidence today—what God promises, He will bring to pass.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does the Virgin Birth strengthen your trust in Jesus as both God and man?
  2. What does this miracle teach you about God’s power to fulfill His promises?
  3. How can you rest today in the truth that salvation is God’s work, not ours?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son in such a miraculous way. Thank You that in Jesus, we have both the holiness of God and the humanity that makes Him our perfect Savior. Help me to trust Your promises and rest in the finished work of Christ. In His name, Amen.
