1 Peter 5:6-7 – Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. [1]
Submission is the ability to recognize the authority and power of a superior who is in a position to give orders to those under their control. God is our supreme authority. As God’s children, we choose to respond in obedience to His calls, not reluctantly, but with a willing heart. Psalm 32:8-9 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.”
No matter how we feel, we must remember that God’s plan will be fulfilled. Therefore, we need to submit to Him, do as He says, and wait patiently on Him. The fire may be intolerable, but we must accept God’s will because He is the Master, and we are the servants. If we are walking in His will, He promised that He would be with us. He dispatches angels to minister to us in times of trouble. A spirit of humility always works together with a spirit of submission. When we submit ourselves to God by faith, He will lift us up, and we will find favor in God’s eyes and in the eyes of men. He will shower blessings upon blessings over us and our families, and we will learn to live a life that pleases God in all seasons of our lives.
To surrender is to let go of the problems of this world and completely trust and depend on God for our well-being. God has a plan for every step we take in this journey called life. Sometimes God allows us to go through difficult times to shape, refine, and transform us into the person He wants us to be. God is for us, never against us. For this very reason, He wants us to cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares for us.
Knowing who God is, His essence, His statutes, and His unfailing love for all of us can enable us to submit to Him completely and find peace that passes all understanding. 1 John 2:3-6 says, “We know that we have come to know Him if we keep His commands. His commands. Whoever says, ‘I know Him, but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in Him:
Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did.”
If we really love Him, we will submit and surrender our lives to Him, and we will let Him take control because He knows what’s best for us. Let us yield and stay under God’s mighty hand so that He may lift us up in due time. Let God be God. He does whatever He wants, however He wants, and whenever He wants. So let us entrust all we have under the authority of the only true God who can empower us with faith, hope, and love, three keys necessary to remain and abide under the authority of God, Lord Almighty. Job 22:21.says, “Submit to God and be at peace with Him; in this way, prosperity will come to you.”
