Scripture:
Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” — Exodus 33:18
Reflection
In the wilderness, after Israel’s rebellion and God’s declaration that He would not go with them personally to the Promised Land, Moses pleaded with God. He knew that without God’s presence, the journey was meaningless. In the middle of this raw conversation, Moses dared to ask for something more than guidance, more than provision — he asked to see God’s glory.
This wasn’t a request for power, miracles, or signs. It was a cry to encounter the very essence of who God is — His character, presence, and beauty. Moses longed to go beyond knowing about God to truly experiencing Him.
Are we bold enough to pray that kind of prayer? “Show me Your glory” is not a casual request — it’s a surrender. It means:
- I don’t just want Your blessings, Lord — I want You.
- I don’t just want You to fix things — I want to behold who You are.
- I want to see Your heart, Your goodness, and Your holiness.
God responded to Moses’ request in a profound way. Though no one could see His full glory and live, God allowed Moses to see a glimpse — passing by and proclaiming His name: “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness…” (Exodus 34:6).
The glory of God is not just a visual spectacle — it’s His character revealed. His glory is His goodness, His faithfulness, His mercy, and His truth. And through Jesus Christ, the fullness of God’s glory has been revealed to us (John 1:14).
Personal Application
- What are you really seeking in your walk with God — His hand or His face?
- Are you willing to pause your pursuit of answers to seek the presence of the Answer Himself?
- Ask God today to show you His glory — not just in the spectacular, but in the stillness, the Scriptures, and in your everyday life.
Prayer
Father, I want more than just Your blessings — I want You. Like Moses, I cry out: “Show me Your glory.” Reveal Yourself to me in deeper ways. Let me see Your goodness in the land of the living. Open my eyes to behold Your beauty, and soften my heart to be transformed by Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
