Isaiah 55:8-9 – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than ·your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. [1]
Dear Father, we come to You with humble hearts this morning urgently desiring to know You more, to understand You more, and to please You more. Lord, we try so hard to live a life that reflects Your character, Your identity, and Your integrity. However, the more we try, the more we mess it up due to our rebellious and disobedient hearts. We understand that You are the Lord God Almighty who knows everything, and nothing can be hidden from You. You search all hearts, know our motives, and treat us according to our deeds. We also understand that You are the Creator of the entire universe, and nothing is out of Your sight. We need Your help, dear Lord, for we were born in iniquities, and it is very challenging for us to live a life that is pleasing to You at all times.
Father, it is our desire to obey You, for this is what You require of us. Obedience means to respond to Your commands as instructed, but most of the time, we disobey You because of pride, misunderstanding, and lack of respect for You. We forget that our rebellious actions can cause grief to You, to ourselves, and to many people around us. Father God, help us to understand the benefits of an obedient heart, such as blessings without measure, peace of mind, love, joy, contentment, wisdom, and understanding, a close relationship and fellowship with You.
Teach us, dear Lord, how to submit to You in all our endeavors. Remove from us any spirit of disobedience that can hinder our relationship with You. Help us to live the life like Jesus lives, to love like Jesus loves, and to act like Jesus acts. Let Your Holy Spirit shine on our souls with Your bright light so that we can see You and understand Your truth, which is the Word of God. Then we can have a listening ear to hear Your voice and follow Your path in every season of our life, whether good or bad.
Help us, dear Lord, to abide in You, for You are the source of life. Help us, Father, to draw closer to You day by day. We may never comprehend why You love us so much despite our disobedience, but we know that You are merciful, gracious, loving, and faithful. We can depend on You because Your thoughts are not our thoughts, and Your ways are not our ways. With a grateful heart, we say thank You, and we love You. As Moses told the children of Israel in Deuteronomy 10:12-13, “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.” Help us apply these words to our lives, for You are our Master, and every good thing we have comes from You.
Father, we pray that You will empower us with the Spirit of Christ, who always obeys and pleases You. May our joy in You be complete. All, praise, glory, honor, power, and majesty be unto You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
