Kairos Moment – For Such A Time As This
Genesis 41:14–16
“So Pharaoh sent for Joseph, and he was quickly brought from the dungeon… Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘I had a dream, and no one can interpret it.’ … ‘I cannot do it,’ Joseph replied to Pharaoh, ‘but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.’”
There are seasons when we pray, serve, remain faithful, and wait—yet nothing seems to change.
Joseph understood those seasons.
God gave Joseph a dream while he was young, but between the dream and its fulfillment came betrayal, a pit, slavery, false accusation, imprisonment, disappointment, and years of waiting.
Then suddenly, everything changed. Joseph awakened one morning as a prisoner. Before the day was over, he was standing before Pharaoh.
His Kairos moment had arrived.
But the opportunity appeared suddenly only because God had been preparing Joseph for years.
The Journey Developed the Disciple
Joseph received the dream before he possessed everything necessary for the assignment.
He needed more than a dream. He needed character, wisdom, humility, endurance, administrative ability, compassion, and dependence upon God.
The dream revealed something about his future, but the journey developed the disciple.
The pit was not wasted. Potiphar’s house was not wasted. The prison was not wasted. Even the waiting was not wasted.
What appeared to be interruptions became part of God’s preparation.
Perhaps you are in a season that does not resemble what you thought God was doing with your life. Do not assume He has abandoned His purpose.
God often does His deepest preparation in hidden places.
Be Faithful Where You Are
One of Joseph’s greatest qualities was his faithfulness. He served faithfully in Potiphar’s house. He served faithfully in prison. He used his God-given abilities even when his circumstances were unfair. Joseph did not wait for the palace before becoming faithful.
Neither should we.
Sometimes we become so focused on the next opportunity that we overlook the assignment already in front of us.
Jesus said:
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” — Luke 16:10
Your workplace, church, family, neighborhood, classroom, or present ministry assignment may be part of God’s preparation.
Be faithful where God has placed you.
Don’t Let Disappointment Disengage You
After Joseph interpreted the cupbearer’s dream, the cupbearer promised to remember him.
But he forgot.
Joseph remained in prison for two more years.
People may forget us.
God does not.
Perhaps disappointment has caused you to sit down spiritually. You once served enthusiastically; you wrote spiritually to encourage others, prayed boldly, studied Scripture faithfully, or shared Christ freely. Then something happened—a closed door, unanswered prayer, betrayal, or discouragement.
Joseph’s story calls us back.
Do not allow disappointment to disconnect you from your calling.
Get back into God’s Word. Get back into prayer. Get off the spiritual pew. Become engaged again.
Your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
When Preparation Meets Opportunity
Then Pharaoh dreamed.
The cupbearer remembered Joseph.
The prison door opened.
And suddenly the gift Joseph had faithfully exercised in obscurity was needed in the palace.
Joseph could not control when Pharaoh dreamed or when the cupbearer remembered.
But Joseph could control whether he remained faithful while he waited.
The same is true for us.
God controls the Kairos moment. We are responsible for our readiness.
When Pharaoh told Joseph that he had heard Joseph could interpret dreams, Joseph answered:
“I cannot do it… but God will give Pharaoh the answer.”
Joseph understood that his gift came from God. The wisdom belonged to God. The opportunity belonged to God.
And therefore—
the glory belonged to God.
That is the posture of an authentic disciple.
Joseph Lived in Egypt, but Egypt Did Not Live in Joseph
Joseph also teaches us how to remain faithful in a culture that does not share our biblical convictions.
He lived in Egypt, but Egypt did not determine his identity. His circumstances changed. His clothes changed. His position changed.
But his allegiance to God remained.
We desperately need believers like that today—men and women who are biblically proficient enough to engage the world without allowing the world’s narrative to reshape their identity.
Like the Bereans, we search the Scriptures. Like the men of Issachar, we understand the times and know what to do.
And like Joseph, we remain faithful to God wherever He places us.
Our identity must remain firmly rooted in Christ.
Your Preparation Is for Someone Else’s Benefit
Joseph’s promotion was not ultimately about Joseph.
A famine was coming. People needed food. Nations needed wisdom. Joseph’s family would eventually need preservation.
God prepared Joseph because other people’s lives would be affected by his obedience.
That is an important truth about our calling. God equips us so we can equip others. He encourages us so we can encourage others. He strengthens us so we can strengthen others. He reaches us so we can reach others. The blessing should never stop with us.
Authentic disciples reproduce.
Years later Joseph could look backward and say to his brothers:
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” — Genesis 50:20
Joseph finally understood that the journey had been bigger than Joseph.
Perhaps yours is too.
Stay Ready
Maybe you are still in a preparation season.
Don’t waste it. Study God’s Word. Pray. Develop your character. Serve faithfully. Forgive. Learn. Grow.
Remain engaged.
Above all, remain in Christ.
The opportunity may arrive suddenly, but preparation happens daily.
Recognize God’s timing.
Respond in faith.
Rededicate yourself to His calling.
Remain in Christ.
Reproduce by helping others become genuine disciples of Jesus Christ.
And when God opens the door, remember Joseph:
“I cannot do it—but God can.”
Because ultimately,
The Destination Is Jesus.

- Has disappointment caused you to become spiritually disengaged?
- Are you faithfully serving where God has already placed you?
- Are you becoming biblically proficient enough to recognize truth amid the world’s competing narratives?
- Who could benefit from what God is developing in you?

Kairos opportunities may arrive suddenly, but spiritual readiness develops daily. Be faithful in the hidden season so you are prepared when God’s appointed moment arrives.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that no season surrendered to You is wasted. When I cannot understand what You are doing, help me trust You and remain faithful.
Forgive me when disappointment causes me to disengage from Your calling. Awaken my heart again. Give me a hunger for Your Word and make me biblically grounded, spiritually discerning, and prepared to obey.
Develop my character in the hidden places. Teach me to serve faithfully when no one is watching and to remain humble when opportunities come.
Lord Jesus, keep me abiding in You. I do not merely want Your blessings or opportunities—I want You.
Use what You are developing in me to encourage, equip, reach, and disciple others. When my Kairos moment arrives, may I be ready to say:
“I cannot do it—but God can.”
May everything You accomplish through my life bring glory to You alone.
