Have You Been Born Again?

By: Rev. Keith Howard

Scripture Reading:“Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’”

—John 3:7

Today’s Reflection

So many today are searching—some for peace, some for joy, others for a sense of purpose. People try to fill the void with relationships, substances, or success, but still come up empty. Nicodemus, a man of influence and religion, came to Jesus under the cover of night with questions that many of us still ask: “Is there more to life than this? How do I really know God?”

Jesus’ answer to Nicodemus is the same answer for us: “You must be born again.” Not merely improved, not just better behaved, but made new from the inside out. Religion, morality, knowledge, and good intentions—Nicodemus had all of these. Yet Jesus said it still wasn’t enough. The kingdom of God isn’t accessed by performance but through spiritual rebirth.

Spiritual Insight

Being born again is not about being good—it’s about being changed. It’s a miracle of transformation by the Holy Spirit. Like the wind, it’s invisible but undeniably real. When Jesus enters a person’s heart, He doesn’t just clean it up—He gives them a new one.

So the question isn’t whether you go to church, or know the Bible, or try to live right. The real question is: Have you been born again?

Key Truths to Remember:

  • Sincerity is not enough. You can be sincerely wrong.
  • Morality is not enough. You can be clean and still lost.
  • Religion is not enough. You can be active but spiritually dead.
  • Orthodoxy is not enough. You can believe all the right things and still be far from God.
  • Success is not enough. Culture, education, or wealth do not give you new life.

Only Jesus gives new birth.

A Prayer of New Birth

Dear Lord,

I know I have tried to fix my life on my own, and it hasn’t worked. I believe You died for my sins and rose again to give me new life. I confess I need You. Come into my heart. Make me new. I want to be born again—by Your Spirit, and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Challenge

Ask yourself: Have I truly been born again? If not, Jesus is ready to receive you today. And if you have, are you walking in the power of that new life? Share your story. Someone else may be searching for what you’ve found in Christ
