Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
The message conveyed in this passage is that we should strive to live a purposeful life driven by God from the moment we become believers in Christ. It is a lifelong journey of spiritual awakening to learn how to step away from our old way of life and embrace the new life in Jesus. When we genuinely become Christians, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in our hearts for life, and we are guaranteed to be part of God’s family. The role of the Holy Spirit is to teach us God’s will and transform us into the likeness of Christ. As Jesus said in John 14:25-26, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
A transformed mind leads to spiritual maturity and a complete change of life. To grow in knowledge and the ability to discern what is true from what is false, we need to spend quality time in prayer, study God’s word, and learn how to apply the knowledge correctly. We must rely on the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit to know more about God, develop a close relationship with Him, and live a holy life.
A transformed mind also worships God wholeheartedly and does not conform to the standards of this world. We should abandon the thought patterns and lifestyles that do not please God, such as the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. Jesus said that if anything causes us to sin, we should throw it away. Anyone who loves the world is an enemy of God, and the world only offers temporary living. Instead, we should be kingdom-minded, seeking ways to renew our minds in every season of our life journey and never compromise the truth. Our challenge is to remain faithful to God, no matter the cost.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” God’s divine power has given us everything we need for life.
Three keys for knowing God’s will are a yielded body that is submitted, obedient, and trusting, separation from things of this world, and a transformed life that changes our old way of thinking to the new way of Christ-like mindedness: love, joy, peace, unity, and harmony among each other. We should put on the garment of compassion, kindness, and humility so that we can shine for Jesus to all we encounter. A transformed mind is required to be part of the kingdom of God.
